Ben Press
Ben is widely referred to as “Mr. Tennis” San Diego. He was awarded the “National” Community Service award by both the USPTA and the USTA in 2005. Served as the San Diego Division President of the USPTA for several terms. Current Board Member of the San Diego District Tennis Association and past president. Founder & President of the Greater San Diego City Tennis Council. Coached San Diego’s only two Wimbledon Champions – Maureen Connolly (Brinker) and Karen Hantze (Susman). He also taught Brian Teacher – Australian Open singles champion. Winner of 10 USPTA National Titles and 3 USTA National Titles. Served as Tennis Professional at the Hotel Del Coronado for 28 years! USPTA “Master Professional” rated. Inventor and marketer of the first all graphite tennis racquet – the “Sceptor” Racquet. Inducted into the San Diego Tennis Hall of Fame in its’ first year of existence along with Maureen Connolly, Karen Hantze (Susman) and Michael Chang, French Open singles champion – among a group of 10 inductees. Inducted into the Southern California Senior Tennis Hall of Fame. Authored “100 Years of Tennis at the Hotel Del Coronado – Playground of the Stars”. Published a weekly tennis column for the San Diego Tribune for 10 years.

Geoff Griffin
Director of Tennis Balboa Tennis Club since 1989. Over 20 year board member of the SDDTA. Past President of the USPTA San Diego Division. USPTA Board member for more than 20 years. Currently Vice President. Over 30 year member of the USPTA. Over 6 years as a Board. Member of the Southern California Tennis Association. Twice San Diego District Tennis Association Pro of the Year. 1993 and 2013. USPTA San Diego Division Pro of the Year. 2006. 2011 Channel 10 Leadership Award winner for efforts to bring tennis to wounded warriors around the country. USTA/USPTA National Community Service Award 2012. SCTA Community Service Award 2013. SCTA Family of the Year 2014. USTA National Adaptive Sports Award for my Wounded Warrior Tennis Committee. 2015. USTA National Tennis Family of the Year. 2016. In 6th year of offering tennis clinics to the wounded warriors at the Balboa Naval Hospital. Tennis Fest founder in the year 1999. 1000 participants, 25 courts of instruction for all ages and levels and 80 volunteer pros every year.
David Gill
David was a former top ranked junior and adult tennis player in San Diego. He was also nationally ranked for many years. David was invited by Ben Press to join the Tennis Council during 2009 and has enjoyed working with his friends and fellow board members to revitalize tennis courts and to help promote tennis in San Diego. David served as a member of the 2014 Davis Cup Organizing Committee. He also spearheaded the Tennis Council’s efforts in a Davis Cup Legacy court renovation project including the upgrade of six tennis courts at Colina Del Sol Community Park in City Heights. David graduated from MIT with an MBA.
